Tai Chi Helps Prevent And Reduce Arthritis Symptoms

Many people know of Tai chi from looking at pictures in movies of people lined up in a square doing slow dance like movements in synchronicity. It’s quite an animated scene to watch as every movement is done with such meticulous precision it almost looks like hard exercise. But it’s nothing like that of course.
Tai Chi was designed so that everyone can do it independent of fitness level and age. What is interesting though is that it was created as a form of martial arts for ancient Chinese farmers to be able to defend themselves against attackers. This means that the movements in Tai Chi are very specific in design and assist in affecting very specific muscles and joints in the body. Particular emphasis is paid to the joints because in that time, one had to have very supple and flexible movements to be able to defend themselves effectively.
Since then of course, the Chinese has adopted this martial arts as a mind and body exercise which has recently proven to have many health benefits including joint related problems. Part of why Tai Chi is so effective in treating arthritis is because of its holistic approach to health. Sometimes referred to as the moving meditation’ Tai Chi creates an awareness of each movement accompanied by deep breathing into all the essential joints.
Practising Tai Chi regularly will increase overall well being without getting a sweat or unwanted muscle tension. In this way it is the ideal low impact exercise for arthritis sufferers who need to keep their joints mobile without too much stress. By just doing Tai Chi you will increase your muscles strength and flexibility. In older people especially, they will have improved balance which means they don’t fall as much. It’s also great at easing pain and stiffness as movements are slow and accompanied by a lot of breathing which is good for getting oxygen in all the joints.
In some areas in China, they found many old people reaching ages higher than 80 years easily and with all their movements unhindered by joint related problems. They attributed this to their consistent practice of Tai Chi and a natural diet.
I’m sure there are going to be more benefits of Tai Chi which we will find in the future. It’s great to know that ancient practices such as this have not died away and we are still reaping their benefits even today.
