The symptoms of Sjogren’s are typically dryness of the eyes and mouth. These symptoms differentiate Sjogren’s syndrome from other forms of arthritis. However, it is also associated with joint problems which can often be diagnosed as another form of Arthritis and often makes diagnosis difficult.
This is an auto-immune condition where the body attacks the glands which produce fluids. This then causes the resulting dryness. This can manifest in joint problems as it can affect the production of synoval fluid which lubricates the joints. However, this Cerebral spinal fluid which affects the brain and spine can also be affected.
This condition is thought to be the side effect of an over-active immune system. Most medical treatments try to reduce the dryness, but the underlying cause can only be addressed by balancing the immune system.
