Arthritis is a widespread condition that affects millions of people worldwide. For many, the conventional health care provides relief. But there are other remedies that are effective?
First, a brief run down of what arthritis is. The fact is that Arthritis is a generic term covering more than one hundred different conditions, some common, an extremely rare and some rare. Arthritis means inflammation of one or more joints of the body, usually caused by infection, injury or simply plain wear and tear of life. It may also be a genetic disease.
The causes of arthritis are many and varied and its well-known effects. The pain, inflammation, limited mobility and redness and swelling are all common symptoms. A strange fact is that people who show little joint damage mai extensive experience of pain, while others whose joints have defects feel terrible sometimes little pain, not even at all.
The most common form of arthritis: osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and gout.
Some other types include – systemic infectious arthritis, gouty arthritis, psoratic arthritis, bursitis and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. As indicated, there are many more less common forms.
Osteoarthritis (wear and tear arthritis) is the most common of all, especially among the elderly. It is associated with loss of bone tissue in the joints and can severely limit mobility.
Rheumatoid arthritis (arthritis) is more common in women than in men and effects usually over 40. He tends to attack the hands, causing swelling in the fingers, although it can affect any other part of the body including the lungs and eyes.
Gout is more common among men than women, again often in people over 40. It is caused by high levels of uric acid in the blood that crystals formed in joints. They are attacked by the body's immune system, thought the invaders, and the results of inflammation and pain that can be localized, but severe.
Unfortunately, there is still no cure for arthritis, especially if the bone or cartilage is damaged or has deteriorated badly. Arthritis Drugs cons conventional help many people and they should be considered as standard treatment for a member suffering from the onset. However, it should be noted that these treatments may have serious side effects including depression, immune system suppression, diarrhea, headaches and high blood pressure, intestinal bleeding, nausea and abdominal pain.
That may be why more and more – especially those who have suffered from arthritis for some time – turn to alternative forms of treatment and medicines. Conventional medicine does not prove effective in most cases – despite side effects – but for some it just simply does not provide the relief they need. Alternative treatments are many and varied and, while few studies scientists seems to have been conducted on most of these use the fact remains that, at least for some, they work.
Alternative Treatments include (alphabetically): Acupressure, Acupuncture, Aromatherapy, Ayurveda, Bach Flower Remedy, Chiropractic, Color Therapy, Food / Diet Therapy, Herbal Medicine, Homeopathy, Hydrotherapy, Hypnosis, Juice Therapy, Massage Therapy, Nutrition Therapy, Oriental Medicine, reflexology, Tissue Salts, traditional Chinese medicine and yoga.
It is impossible to say which, if any, work for an individual – if indeed any work at all for that person. Yet the fact remains that many people experience relief of joint pain and other symptoms arthritic they simply can not find in conventional medicine and, given the nature of arthritis, no relief pain, however small, deserves to be studied.
I'm certainly not one moment that anyone should ignore the advice of their doctor, throw their drugs and move completely to alternative therapies. However, if you're one of those unlucky few who find relief from pain taking drugs allowed, or suffer unpleasant side effects, it may well be useful to consider these alternatives as a new path to pain relief and improved quality of life.
